Apart from straws and seeds, other parts of the plant can be processed for obtaining different products:
• Hemp leaves can be processed for their phytochemicals as they have medicinal, wellness, and commercial applications. The leaves are harvested, dried and then they undergo an extraction process to separate the cannabinoids. The resulted extract is purified to created CBD oils, tinctures or creams. Apart from these industrial uses, the dried leaves could be also used for teas.
• The hemp flowers are often used for the CBD extraction or for hemp essential oils.
• The hemp roots, although less commonly used, could be harvested, cleaned and processed to extract compounds such as botulinic acid and terpenes that have anti-inflammatory properties.
• Finally, the hulls or seed husks after the dehulling process could be used for animal feed as they have a high amount of fibre but also for biomaterials or flour.
